I recently took a small loan to cover what I did not have out-of-pocket. By giving the bank (Teachers Credit Union) the serial number for the instrument they extended me a 'collateralized loan'. The result of this was an 8% loan, which is actually pretty good for a non house/car loan.
One other thing. I know that some stores have extended purchase programs. I saw that Baltimore Brass was offering 3 and 6 month extended payment programs. I don't know the particulars but you might check that out.
