The oboe has only the reed shank for tuning and it moves less than a half inch. It better be made for A=440 but if it can't get there, everybody else has to compensate as there is no other way to tune it. Poor excuse for using an oboe to tune, but I've heard from more than one oboeist that is why they are used. (Don't know if this is true cause I can't even squeak on an oboe) Jim Tyler
