Looking through Sean's list of recommended recordings I wondered whether chaps in the US were at all familiar with recordings by the LSO Brass?

Available is a 3 Volume collection of Gabrieli works. These are recorded for the Naxos label.

Recorded on the 'Collins Classics' label are 'Cathedral Brass', and 'American Brass'.

Cathedral brass has transcriptions of JS Bach's D.min Toccata & Fugue, and his C.min Passacaglia & Fugue; also J Clarke's 'King's March & Prince Eugene's March' (M. Murphy & R. Franks - Solo Tpts...). Between these tracks are some Gabrieli including his Sonata Pian e Forte.

American Brass features (as you'd expect) works of an American origin. Centrepiece of the disc is Bernstien's Suite from West Side Story which is simply incredible. Also from Bernstien is the 'Prelude, Fugue and Riffs' featuring Derek Watkins on lead trumpet. Copland offers 'Fanfare for the Common Man', 'Ceremonial Fanfare' and the great 'El Salon Mexico'. Ives' 'Variations on America' even has a Tuba solo for a variation... Also on disc are Barber's 'Mutations From Bach' and Cowell's 'Fanfare for the Latin American Allies'.

All arrangements are by LSO co-principal Trombone, Eric Crees who directs the ensemble here. Playing throughout is stunning and I cannot recommend these discs enough!
Btw, Tubas are Patrick Harrild (all), James Anderson (WSS & El Salon Mexico) and Oren Marshall (Bach).

Please comment if you've heard the ensemble...
Hope some of you get to enjoy these discs!!
