The hole in the center of the lips. You "form" an aperture that varies in size according to the pitch of the note you're playing. Smaller aperture is higher note, larger aperture is lower note. If you want to see your aperture, play a note, "freeze" your embouchure, take the tuba off your face, and look in the mirror. Most brass pedagogy says that an aperture should be shaped like the opening in a bassoon reed, an oval on its side.
