In an earlier thread about monster sousaphones I posted a photo of my 1925 York monster BBb sousaphone. One of the problems with York tubas and sousaphones from this era is that they used very large mouthpiece receivers, similar in size to the large Alexander receivers. I have the original tuning bits for this monster, but not the original mouthpiece and none of my mouthpieces worked with it. Finding mouthpieces that would work with these can be a challenge.

Sooo, last time I was in Dillon music I dropped of one of the tuning bits and their new machinist custom made an adapter to allow me to use my standard shank mouthpieces with the large bit. Here is a photo of the bit and the adapter. Notice how he matched the detail from the bit on the adapter. This works great and was a relatively inexpensive way to enable me to use my existing mouthpieces with this old horn.
