Maybe so, but it'll take a Yamaha to have the resources and tenacity to pull it off.

A shame really--these guys are using basically the same materials that were used to manufacture American instruments at the turn of the last century. If anything, the Chinese have better tools at their disposal. What's really needed is a Dr. W. Edwards Deming to introduce the idea of quality as was done in Japan.

Yet, if what we're facing here is the Communist ideal of state employment, any notion of producing quality goods may go the way of the backyard blastfurnace (kids, ask your parents about the Great Leap Forward). Since there are apparently a few factories in Tianjin making the same instruments (designs furnished by the state, no doubt), this is probably a state-run or subsidized enterprise.

Until the possibility of social advancement through self-betterment, hard work and innovation becomes a reality in all of China (not just the capitalist zones), we'll probably continue seeing boatloads of "C-flat" tubas here.
