I just finished cutting a King BBb sousaphone valve/slide assembly down to Eb dimensions. I then put it on a Couesenon Eb tuba and added some of a used (red rot but not full of holes yet)Mirafone mouthpipe. $45 for the couesnon some spare parts and 7 hours later I finally have an Eb tuba. The intonation is useable and it is a very comfortable to play. It does look a little akward I'll try to post some pictures some time. Thanks to Daryol for the link to Carls home made tuba parts, and Rick for his thourogh pages on tuba acoustics and modifications. I am a NAPBIRT repair technician so the tools and skills are available to 24 hours a day, but I would encourage other players to try projects like these. Some of the things you learn when you work on instruments really helps you play them. Just dont try things like this on anything but junk horns.

Thanks vlf
