I think it's a bit gaudy for my tastes, but other than that it sounds about the same (to my ears) as my 642. Suffice it to say that after hearing it I wasn't sufficiently interested to try it for myself. Of course it sounded lovely, just not enough lovelier than the 642.
By the way, if you like things really fancy,I saw on Yamaha's Japanese home page that for only about $600 extra you can get the inside of the bell gold plated as well. But then again, they'll do that for the 642.
