I have been informed that I have to play this piece. The conductor wants a tuba instead of contrabassoon. I am not possitively sure which octave to play(written or down the octave). In the recordings I have, the contabassoon sounds an octave lower than written. I can't remember, it has been too long since I have taken orchestration. I have prepared the part both ways, but does anyone really know which octave is to be played by the tuba?
