Those are great suggestions. In my case, I took a Brahms class while I was at Juilliard, and have played most of the Brahms orchestral works. I can still remember Otto Von Mueller screaming to the Juilliard orchestra "Brahms vas born in hemiola hospital!!!" ;-)

It happens that I've never performed the German Requiem, and my questions were more around the parts of the work where the tuba is playing sustained notes just below the bass clef, where the F tuba is not particularly resonant. The high stuff is a no-brainer for being better on F, and as I had said in my original post I am certain that F is the instrument of choice in Europe. Now I know it appears to be the instrument of choice in the States! ;-)

Thanks again to everyone for their suggestions. This board can be a great resource.
