My opinion is that both are fine instruments entirely appropriate for your son as a serious highschool player. I have to say he is very fortunate to have your support!
My observation is that the G50 is generally more consistent in things like finish, workmanship, scale, and "pleasing-ness." But in your case this is moot with two to compare with each other in the luxury of your living room and the practice hall at the High School!
My suggestion would be for him to spend a lot of time playing both, with extended lesson time with his applied tuba teacher (spring for the extra lesson time its money well spent) to determine a choice, not enTIREly based upon which works best for him today.
