No more cluttered than what's there. I think what puts the pianists off (other than just the fact that it's mixed meter) is that the composer puts dotted bar lines (I can't think of a better term) within a measure of 7/8 to separate the 2+2 from the 3 (if that makes sense). I'd rather see time signatures--I've read enough mixed meter that it wouldn't throw me at all, and that would probably be true for anyone trying to play it, since it's a fairly difficult piece.

BTW Joe, if you liked the Halsey Stevens that much, you might enjoy the George--it travels some of the same rhythmic and harmonic territory as the Sonatina. The Stevens is probably a better piece, but the George is well worth the effort.
