I am a college student who a year ago commissioned a work for solo tuba and concert band. I decided that i did not really have the resources to go to a "well known" composer, so I went to a composition major at my school and talked to them. We talked for a while about the idea, concepts, cost, etc.. In the end I received a piece that is approx 9 minutes long for the cost of $500. I funded this myself, since it was my idea and I really did not know who I could go to. Hope this helps a little.. If you want to know more e-mail me
