I'm willing to bet that the reason that a disk couldn't be read had more to do with whether the owner kept his software up-to-date than with what's on the disk. Java is supposed to be interoperable between computers, but using the latest versions of Java VMs is important. I've had far more trouble getting disks read PC-to-PC than I have with Macs.

With Macs, it's essential that you close (finish) the disk, and it's advisable not to leave the disk open for later write sessions. Also, do not use UDF 1.5 formatting on CDs, since Apple dropped support for that format
