Congratulations on this encouraging event in your life.

The original post was more directed at folks who thought they played quite well but didn't make it past the prelims. When the conservatory student (buried down in this thread) decided to nip at me as he did a few months ago in another provocative thread, I admittedly had a bit too much fun with him.

I stand by my statement that nearly all excerpts on "the list" are about breath control and not about velocity studies...nor for that matter are they about a certain 100th% of 1% "flavor" in the overall "tuba tone quality spectrum". That being said, I believe it is safe to say that the guy who had his "fuel" under the best control - and put it together with the music - was selected. Regardless of other applicants' stature, reputations, experiences, etc., once it gets down to the nitty-gritty, only one person is chosen, and that person is always chosen for a clear reason. On this we obviously agree.
