As you say, the tubenet is a great place to humor oneself! I couldn't help but wonder how many of the applicants were silently lurking and getting a big laugh out of this whole thread. But it's also a place where people go to learn and reflect and hopefully gain some knowledge that helps them further their enjoyment or success as a musician. Its nice to occassionally hear from players at the pinacle.
Recently, I've been viewing the DVD of Gould's re-recording of the Bach Goldberg Variations. It's just so amazingly musical. Even after multiple viewings, the technical prowress and oddity of the performer innevitably fade away and the incredible "song" steals the show. Jacobs was right. The power of the song can overcome distractions...whether it be Gould's uncontrolled moaning or the alternate fingerings we should be using.
