c'mon, how many tubas does Dick have in stock? Seriously if an LMS (local music store) has 5 used consignment horns, then all of our whining about "no tuba stores" is another tubenet-ism....repeated so long that people come to accept that as a universal truth.
And if thats true, then some of our collections represent competition to every one of the merchants who keep 6-figure-plus inventories available for our perusal.

I for one think the mail-order-bottom-line approach of a few merchants over the past few years has done a LOT to discourage just about all local shops from bothering with tubas, heck....whens the last time you went local to try and find even a mouthpiece? Now with THAT said, locals SHOULD check with their local shops to see whats available, and if you know you've found the "right one"....go for a purchase from them!

BUT there is NO SUBSTITUTE for checking out tons of horns, and to my knowledge there's only 5 or 6 places in the States where you can chose form 20, 30, or a hundred tubas.
In California, there's only one.
