Bass Tuba refers to the F tuba. Contrabass Tuba refers to the larger CC tuba. There is no law that says you must play the concerto on an F tuba, but there are some pretty high notes that would be tough to play accurately on a CC. I've never attempted the Vaughan Williams on a CC tuba, but I imagine it would be a challenge. As for your other question, I have not heard that particular Wilder piece. That's interesting that they want to hear two pieces by the same composer or in the same style. Is this a degree recital?
