I just performed a few weeks ago part of the Vaughan Williams (1st mvt) on a CC, and it can definitely be done. About the Wilder, is that the one written for tuba and a few percussionists? If it is, its definitely pretty atonal, and also involves some extended technique (polyphonics). Just listening to it I wouldn't think "musically connected to Vaughan Williams."
