In my opinion, you would have to be a remarkably good player by professional standards to have outgrown a Miraphone 186 while still in high school (or at any age, for that matter). If you are that good, then you must have a private instructor. Does your private instructor agree that the Miraphone is holding you back? If so, then ask the instructor to talk to your parents about it.
If you don't have a private instructor, then I'd go on the assumption that you haven't really outgrown the Miraphone.
Perhaps your father is trying to help you see the light: That playing the tuba is an avocation (read: something that you do for fun and not for profit) that you should pay for yourself. Yes, I know it's tough medicine, but you'll have to learn it sooner or later.
