Yes they do this for two reasons. I have one, who, when I drag out the fuzzy blankets as winter approaches, "marks" them repeatedly no matter how often I wash them or what I put on them. Another cat I had, when she was angry, would do a deliberate full-bladder-dump in the corner of the living room. Yet another cat, a male, sprayed my husband's dirty laundry every time he (the cat) got in the closet. (Cat was there first, husband was the interloper.) A friend with a new baby is having to get rid of his cat because it won't stop puddling the rug under the baby's crib. They are having to replace the rug.

So....if you do ever get the smell out, keep the gig bag in a big garbage bag, well sealed, or you will likely have a repeat performance.
