If I've got a silverplated horn that needs a good polishing because of etched-in fingerprints or whatever, I'll take a soft rag, pour some acetone onto it and stroke it a couple of times over a block of rouge buffing compound. Lightly rub the horn with the combination, let it dry and then use a clean soft cloth to wipe the buffing compound off. Gives a beautiful scratchless, greaseless "haze-less" surface.
Jewelers use a similar rouge-treated cloth for polishing. You can usually purchase teh ready-made variety at jewelry stores if you don't want to use the "roll your own" approach.
This works only on a lightly-tarnished horn, BTW.
