thing, as close as I can tell. The 3+1 arrangment is shunned by most tuba players, yet it's the preferred combination for euph players. Blakely compensation is definitely in the minority of pro-quality tubas, yet it's the rule for pro-quality euphoniums. 5 valve tubas are not uncommon, but 5 valve non-comp euphs are.

Speaking of euph configurations, did anyone notice that there was a nice silver-plated Marzan/Willson 4-front comp euph on that auction site about 2 weeks ago with a "buy it now" of $1500?
