I would never want to dampen your enthusiasm, but that money would be much better-spent elsewhere. If your band is shrinking that fast, you'll probably have plenty of instruments to go around. It is relatively rare that an instrument actually needs to be replaced. Although "contras" tend to be fragile in construction and weak in true bass sound on the field, yours could be repaired to play as well as virtually any new ones will. Personally, I'd much rather play any sousaphone, even the 1979 King fiberglass sousa you mentioned.
