Had a couple as well and agree on the effect of removing the extension. The problem is that the stock slides are way too long for C. There may well have been a factory option to get C length slides but I've never come across them. As is the thing is either a pretty fair Bb trumpet or a C bugle ( with valves that might work for late Stravinsky but naught else).
