As to the Bentzon, I am completely ignorant.

I don't have a full-time orchestra job, but I end up getting hired to play a lot of professional orchestral services.

I use my F tuba whenever I can, because I embrace clarity, and because my F tuba luckily works remarkably well. I (when asked) play all Brahms, all R. Strauss, [would play] Bruckner 4, certainly Stravinsky, Wagner - Meistersinger, and many oft-CC played pieces on F tuba. However, there are certain lines (lines that are clear to me) that I would not cross, regarding playing an F tuba where a contrabass tuba would obviously be called for.

I would never consider showing up for any engagement with a B&S Apollo F tuba, not even just for one rehearsal for a pops concert, because I just cannot imagine (based on several play tests over the years) being able to play an Apollo F tuba in tune well enough to avoid glares (or at least highly unfriendly thoughts) from a normally very friendly bass trombonist - which would lazer-burn holes right through me...

...I don't enjoy being burned by lazers...Particularly when done by friends.
