I had the honor to play with Øystein, when i was in Scotland with my Brass Band. He told me that the instrument he uses mostly is a Hirsbrunner Eb tuba with rotary valves. This was also the one he used on his new CD.

The reason most of you have seen him with a Miraphone, is because he has help Miraphone developing their new Eb tuba, "The Norweian Star". He is using this horn when he is on a promoting tour for them.

With the case, this tuba is about 20cm longer then his Hirsbrunner, whitch causes some problems when he is traveling. The Hirsbrunner fits in most taxi trunks, but the Miraphone is just to long. This is actualy one of the resons why Øystein uses his Hirsbrunner.

BTW he uses a B. Tilz Nea 3 mouthpiece, on the new CD.
