Hi,
(This is in no way a flame)
I don't think the 2182 is the piston version of the 182. The 182 has a 13.8 inch bell, the 2182 a 15 inch bell. Also, the bore on the 2182 is bigger.
I was speaking to one of Warren Deck's ex-students recently (hi, if you're reading this - I forgot your name, but we had pizza at David F's shop after the National audition) and he said that the 2182 was based on an old Alex bell.
I think the 2182 is trying to fill a gap between the tiny 182 and the fairly massive 45.
Personally, I like everything about the 182 except the sound; I'm not a big fan of the Meinl Weston sound. Don't get me wrong; it sounds great, but I think it's not for me.
I do like the MW 45slp; it plays great and sounds good, but is about 4 inches too tall for my traveling arrangements.
I hope to try a 2182 sometime soon, but if anyone else has played one, please post your thoughts!! Does anyone know how much they're going for?
