On the other hand, maybe it just didn't occur to him that there might be something lodged in the horn. That seems to be a recurrent theme in this thread. Great though he was, he was also human, and nobody seems to suspect something in the horn when it sounds or feels stuffy.
The looking-inward response was a common theme running through this thread.
What it also says is that a shoe brush in the bow of the CSO York has a smaller effect that we might have imagined.
