I got steel replacement valve springs from Kevin Powers (custom music's repair guy) about 10 years ago. I think they were steel and he wound them himself. I don't remember what they cost, but they were a lot cheaper than I expected. I used them on a 4/4 Rudi before I sold it. I also used Mirafone springs. both worked fine.
