I went to the Bruckner 5th concert. What an incredible orchestra. There is nothing like hearing an orchestra like Vienna play music so much a part of their own heritage. For my taste, the only flaw, and it was a big one, was that Maazel was conducting. His approach was very much a Tchaikovskian approach which didn't really work very convincingly for Bruckner. The tempos were blazingly fast and the big picture didn't make any sense to me. But the playing and individual musicianship, it was fantastic. Quite an orchestra!
