All I really wanted to tell you was that if it says MADE in Ohio, there wasn't much of anyone else around there (Ohio) but H.N. White/King.

Over the years, King HAS made some instruments with SOLID "sterling" silver (not just plated) bell parts or mouthpipe parts, but no tubas like this that I know of.

If not MADE in Ohio, perhaps "Sterling" was the private trade name of an old Ohio music store that had some manufacturer stencil all of the instruments that they sold with this name.

Well, that's about all I can b.s. without actually knowing anything at all about your friend's tuba.
