My experience is not tuba/sousaphone-related, but a friend of mine had a shoulder dislocated in an accident, with resulting stretched ligaments, and the treatment was to immobilize her arm, with it strapped to her chest for six weeks. Although it was a pain, it tightened up the ligaments just fine. You might ask her doctors about this way of treating it. And of course, maybe she should forget about sousaphone and marching....not worth ruining your body over.
