Evan - I would strongly suggest you learn how to triple tongue first before working on your double tonguing. Trust me when I say this, it is much easier to learn to triple tongue (Ta Ta Ka) before learning to double tongue than vice versa. Get an Arbans book and notice that the triple tonguing section is before the double tonguing section - it's in this order for that very reason. Once you've gotten somewhat proficient at triple tonguing, you'll be able to learn double-tonguing very easily. I know many professional low brass players who never learned to triple tongue (ttk) because they learned double tonguing first, and consequently they triple tongue with the Ta ka ta Ka ta ka Ta ka ta etc... This is not particularly bad, but I can tell you that being able to triple tongue with the ta ta ka syllables can be very useful.
