While Mr Jacobs was not happy with the Barenboim recording, using the statement "the Arnold Jacobs recording is NOT good at all" is harsh. There is the sound that he got unlike anyone else. He played briliantly but they rushed the entire project.

At the Jacobs tribute, Daniel Barenboim stated he learned something as a young conductor working with Jacobs. I am not implying that it was Barenboims fault but the session was rushed. The performances were cancelled due to the ultimate death of Barnemboim's wife at the time and the CSO was reading it on the session. Things didn't jell.

Mr Jacobs' performance is brilliant but he was, to quote Curly Howard, he was "a victim of circumstance." While not the best recording of the VW, it is certainly one that should be listened to.
