I had no end of problems with a gig bag. Easy to carry the tuba and cheaper than a hard case, but not enough protection. I got a Hirsbrunner hard case for my St Pete, and installed 10" wheels. I used the large wheels so I can go up and down stairways and over curbs. They will come off easily if/when I fly. Yes, it's a rather "herky" affair, but it works. Put a pull handle on the end of the case to pull. It's heavy, but I can lift it into the back of my pick up or GEO Metro. I have no doubt that the Johnson case is the best one going, but the small wheels would not allow the ease of use on the stairways and curbs.
