This is a FINE instrument. If one was going to own ONE tuba, this would be a good choice. It has a full large sound, big enough for MOST orchestral things and is perfect for a band/wind ensemble setting. It makes a good solo horn, as the high range is excellent. Like many 'compromise' horns, it has ONE drawback: It's a bit too large for brass quintet and tuba quartet playing. Having said that, I have seen many fine players use a tuba this size and larger in small settings, and with the right approach can be used VERY sucessfully. This is an EXCELLENT choice for a tuba. Superior pitch and GREAT low notes are its strength. Good luck!
