Low Range Extension Problem

Hi everybody,

I have the following problem:
I have an F-Tuba with five valves, and so I can comfortably play chromatically down to pedal F (four ledger lines below the bass clef) in tune. Beyond that, with a good warmup and on a good day I even can finger down to my double pedal Gb. But the next open note, the double pedal F doesnīt come. For me the open note in this deep register seems like a "magic hurdle". There only comes a undefinable sound, but itīs definitely always higher pitched than the deep fingered notes!
What are your experiences? Is this really such a milestone where you harldy can get over and where many tubaplayers find their limit? What to do to nail the problem?
(I know range extension is no competition and this extreme register doesnīt have a high practical value but I think everybody wants to improve his abilities.)

Thanks,
Mario
