DON'T hit the slide with a hammer! Try putting a piece of cloth, like a dish towel, around it and then pull on the cloth. That has always worked for me. If that fails, then perhaps some penetrating oil in several applications, then pull again. When you do get it out, use a shotgun cleaning brush to clean out the tubing, then a swab on a wooden stick to clean it out. Get some Bag Balm for a drugstore or feedstore. Apply a generous amount on one slide and insert just that slide into a tube. work it around, side to side, in and out. Then swap and wipe it clean. Repeat for the second slide and tube. Bag Balm is an excellent slide lube, I use it on all of my slides. Far better that Vasoline.
