I concur regarding the DEG. I have used it and to me it is the best compromise between holding your tuba and sticking it in a "tuba tamer." You may need to fiddle with it to find a playing height that is comfortable for you, but at least you have lateral movement.

I have also found that for some gigs I need a small tuba and a shoulder strap. I don't remember who makes the strap, but it is about four inches wide and very well padded. I think I got it from the WW and BW. I use a King 1140 tuba, which is compact and relatively light, or I have an older Boosey & Hawkes (non-comp) which is full size but only weighs about 16 lbs, and can stand all day. I wouldn't try this with a full size horn unless you are a body builder (or at least in better shape than me :) ).
