Gold is most often cut with silver (industry standard). the silver makes it MUCH harder than either metal alone. I have a solid 10k gold ring that is virtually impossible to damage. The local plating facility in my area does everything from motorcycle parts, musical instrument parts (at my request) to microwave comunication equipment. They only offer 100% (24k) gold, I think that every mix (alloy) would need it's own dip tanks & other supporting equipment. making having more than one alloy type available an expensive venture. They phased out the silver tanks for this reason a few years ago.

Ask your local harley davidson mechanic shop who the plater of choice in your area is.

Gold/Germanium is a hard surface, & it melts at 375C. I've been considering this stuff for a while.

products like this (gold alloys) are made by "indalloy" industries if I'm not mistaken.
