I have had the redesigned Besson 994 for about 4+ years. A good horn and fun to play. It has the unique British Brass Band BBb tuba sound. (No surprise here.) The sound is somewhat different than most other big BBb tubas. It has an edge to it that you do not typically find. It also has a fine resonance in the mid- to lower register. It does not, however, have the power of, say a Willson, below Bb below the staff. It also has excellent articulation throughout its entire range. The only really squirrely note is the D below the staff. Play that with the 3rd valve. Otherwise, the intonation is superb. Finally, it took me a while to find the right mouthpiece so that the notes centered as they should. I suspect the lack of the right mouthpiece for the horn has lead to many of the nay-sayer comments you see posted here. So much for the demon haunted world.
