No....Fletch did NOT use a Besson 981 on his classic 1972 recording of the VW. He used the 981's predecessor: a late 1960s B&H Imperial or Besson New Standard which he'd had customised with a 19" bell and certain amounts of tubing cut out to bring it up to pitch when played with his 24AW mouthpiece. Fletch stayed loyal to this particular EEb, never updating to one of the later Sovereign range ones.
