I always remember a scene from the movie Bull Durham. It's the one where Tim Robbins' character's dad is in the stands, and he's pitching horribly. Kevin Costner's character goes out to the mound and asks why. When he finds out he says, "So he's your old man. He's as fulla s**t as everybody else."

That may or may not help you, but it always reminds me that at the end of the day, when my horn is in its corner for the night, my wife will still love me and my dog will still drool lovingly on my shoes no matter how well or poorly I played. With that realization comes the relaxation that allows me to play "in the moment" for myself and not worry too much about a clam. That and knowing that I'm the best darned tuba player in the room (true or not) gives me the boost of confidence needed to play stuff like the Tchaik 4 solo you're talking about.

Best of luck to ya...

Steve
