Sam Gnagey (email = Tubanurse(AT)aol.com) converts King 2341 BBb tubas into his own version of the Conn 52J / 56J tubas, in either 4 or 5 valve versions. I just played a 4V version (.689 bore for all 4 valves) with a 20" bell. The one I played wasn't lacquered and shiny, but it played very easily and sounded fantastic. I believe his price on the 4V versions are around $3000, which would at least get you started, but may not have all the features you need for the low register. His 5V horns are more -- contact him for the details.
