Well, you did answer one of his two questions -- in a simple, and yet a perhaps subjectively valid manner. I would hope he was wanting to know more of the historical background (that's my question). I.E. -- who were the players who decided to switch first, who started the ball rolling, so to speak, and when did this occur? What were *their* stated reasons for switching?

I've heard August Helleberg was one such player, and that maybe Bill Bell was another.
Did one of them say, "Dang! This CC is a breeze to play -- so easy to blow through due to its being 2 feet shorter!" Did the other one say, "Man all this orchestral playing I do would sure have easier fingerings in these silly sharp keys if I had a tuba pitched in, say, CC!" etc....
