Universal Japan has is in the process of issuing Bernstein's Unitel video Mahler cycle on DVD along with the Haitink/Berlin Phil Mahler videos. In addition they have been issuing Ormandy/Philadelphia performances as well. In Japan they are releasing about 12-20 DVD format reissues per month of programs which were previously available from Phillips, DG, and London on VHS and Laserdisc. These new releases are DVD only releases. The good news is that they are all region free formats meaning that they can be played on any DVD player. The bad news is that they are available only from Japan. According to an A&R rep for Universal, they decided against issuing these in the U.S. and Europe as they wanted to concentrate on DVD-Audio releases instead and demand has been low for classical DVDs.
