The best thing you can do is to play a bunch of horns and find "the sound". That may mean shipping several to your home. Save some money and drive/fly somewhere like Custom Music, Dillon, Baltimore Brass Co., or the Brook Mays Tuba Store. Even if you spent more $ flying (fares are cheap right now), it would pay off, as you could play and compare numerous instruments at one sitting. I would agree with what was already said in another reply - your first CC probably shouldn't be a big horn, just a 4/4. If you are an advanced, accomplished player, maybe you could swing it, but I wouldn't recommend it. Definitely include 4/4's in your choices. Good luck.
