This happened to a friend of mine, a fine amateur horn player. She had been in a performing WW5T for about 20 years; they were preparing for a performance, and a few days before, she started having trouble with her embouchure. During the performance, her chops simply quit. She couldn't play. That was several years ago, and although she has worked diligently to try to restore things, she is now playing string bass. At least all the musical background is still being used, and she is still making music. I admire anyone who takes up a new instrument in their late 50's and reaches a perfomance level on it.
