I have to disagree.

At Brevard this summer, I tried a PT-50+ side by side with my PT-48. Not precisely the same mouthpieces, but close enough in size for comparison. As you know, I play a Cerveny Piggy CC. It sould be noted that the 50+ I tried also had a gold rim, though I doubt that would have had much bearing.

With the 50+, there was a noticable shift in the color of the tone towards the dark side. It was much harder to break the sound. The horn felt more efficient, and seemed to slot better. That said, I am still playing my 48, mainly due to budgeting my shekels elsewhere.

Joe, I suspect that if you were to try that mpc. on a thinner-walled horn, you would see some difference. Perhaps not enough to make a difference big enough to warrant the investment, but noticable.

I noticed a difference as have others. Different players will have different experiences, so your mileage may vary.
